Another Roman historian of the early 3rd c. AD (Cassius Dio) stated the same simple truth: We cannot survive without soldiers, and men will not serve without pay. The basic concept of this is also true for our science! The developments that have taken place over the last years particularly at European but also at many North American universities and archaeological services have crippled the resources of many small departments in our field. Many are now seriously endangered, others have altogether vanished! The MAVORS-Institute seeks to preserve and further our knowledge in the both centrally important as well as genuinely exciting field of Ancient Military History as an effort to contribute to our understanding of the Ancient World. Our current resources are very modest! All our staff have contributed with private means, as we all share the hope to set the foundations for future generations of scholars to be able to continue research in Ancient Military History.
