The Roman army page
Detailed overview of the Roman Army and its structure during the Republic, the Empire and the Late Roman period. The site includes an extensive bibliography, many links as well as the Greek text and an English translation of Arrian's "Array against the Alani".

The Roman Army by Gary Brueggeman
A detailed description of the Roman Army and its organization (including over 500 drawings and images) with a particular emphasis on the army in the field and on the march. The structure is slightly confusing and the site was temporarily down when we last visited it.

This web-site features an encyclopedia and glossary, an image base, a travelogue, a bibliography, an (as yet) incomplete English translation of Emil Ritterling's "Legio", as well as a book store, a forum and a chat (!).

This association aims to promote research and scholarly exchange in the field of Military History. It is open to traditional political and institutional approaches to the study of war and the armed forces as well as more recent social, mental and cultural-anthropological perspectives. It offers an informative and interesting web site and it is an important platform for a modern approch to military history. However, it tends to focus strongly on post-medieval centuries.
